Mayoral debate last night in Fredericton

Candidate for Mayor of Fredericton, Matthew Hayes, and incumbent Brad Woodside, went head to head in a debate last evening at the Tom Morrison Theatre at FHS. The proceedings were televised by Rogers TV, with a question panel consisting of Brunswick News journalists Shawn Berry and Heather McLaughlin. Moderated by The Gleaner's managing editor, John Wishart, about 70 citizens sat rapt in the audience listening to the two men.

Rather than providing an analysis of the evening as to how I think it went, or what the most important points were, I've decided to post some video excerpts, accompanied by questions, from the debate. Decide for yourself what you think of the two candidates.

Would you consider cutting the city's property taxes?

Hayes

Woodside

What are your capital spending priorities?

Hayes

Woodside

How can we build better communities?

Hayes

Woodside

Woodside and Hayes debate what is a sustainable community

Woodside and Hayes discuss their ideas on the city transit system

Candidates on mayor's pay and whether to do the position full time

Hayes and Woodside on the need for transparency of processes at the City

On job cuts and tax breaks

Hayes and Woodside fininshed up with a handshake. Below, the two reflect on the debate:
