Today at 12 noon, Friends of the UNB Woodlot member, Mark D'Arcy, is giving a presentation to city officials about the ramifications of shale gas work on the city's wetlands. D'Arcy was contacted by the Mayor a few weeks ago and told the city was open to a meeting. Public Safety Committee chair Eric Megarity then called D'Arcy a few days later to arrange today's meeting. D'Arcy had been pushing for the meeting for some time due to concerns about the affects of industry expansion into local wetlands. With it's potential effects on the city's watershed and safe drinking water, D'Arcy hopes to bring an awareness to city officials, and the local populace, that their water is in jeopardy, and must be protected through the city enacting new by-law legislation to prohibit industrial damage to the wetlands which feed city aquifers.
