Why The People's Alliance party supported NDP's Cardy

This week we heard that the leader of the People's Alliance of New Brunswick party, Kris Austin, threw his weight behind the NDP's Dominic Cardy in his bid to win the Rothesay by-election.

The riding was vacated by Conservative MLA Margaret-Ann Blaney, who abruptly left government last month to become head of Efficiency New Brunswick.

We caught up with the party's Executive Director, Sterling Wright, while at FORUMe 2012 in Moncton. He explains why Austin sacrificed his chance to get in the House to support Cardy in his quest to get the NDP's first seat in the Legislature in seven years.

  1. Let's hope the Green Party follows suit. It would certainly send the wrong message if they try to run a candidate against Dominic Carty. It is in the interest of all NBers to have a third party represented in the Legislature.
