FORUMe - Evolving Social Values and the Natural Resource Economy

Three-day conference in Moncton to discuss issues surrounding shale gas in New Brunswick

MONCTON - Dr. Roger Ouellette, Professor, Faculty of Arts, Socials Sciences, Université de Moncton and Dr. David Coleman, Professor, Dean of Engineering, University of New Brunswick; are pleased to announce FORUMe, June 3-5, 2012.

FORUMe is design to for those interested in participating in a science-based learning experience which will tackle key issues and concerns that surround the natural resource economy.

FORUMe is being presented by L'Université de Moncton's Clement Cormier Research Chair in Economic Development in collaboration with the University of New Brunswick.

"The steering committee's goal was to ensure key view points were well represented to hopefully cause the most complete picture possible to emerge" Dr. Ouellette said "Social values evolve, our economy evolves, having the most accurate knowledge to ensure we all make the right decision for our future is paramount."

"There are no simple answers here. We felt New Brunswickers were looking for a credible source of information to properly evaluate complex and confusing issues" said Dr David Coleman, Co-chair of FORUMe, “For example, we all recognize the importance of water. With the assistance of UNB's Earth Sciences faculty members, we'll be well equipped to further our understanding of water implications in Resource Development such as shale gas exploration and development."

Dr. Ouellette and Dr. Coleman also recognized the strength of having New Brunswick's two major learning institutions work together in presenting an unprecedented learning opportunity.
